Mentor City Council has passed a resolution encouraging the Lake County commissioners to rescind an increase in the sales tax rate in the county by a half-percent. On Jan. 12, the commissioners passed the sales tax increase by a vote of 2 to 1 with John R. Hamercheck and Richard J. Regovich voting in favor and John Plecnik opposed. The increase raised the sales tax rate in Lake County to 7.75 percent, leaving only Cuyahoga (8.0) and Hamilton (7.8) counties with higher sales tax rates in the state of Ohio.
